Abstract

This article aims to present the relationship between important Brazilian evangelical sectors, groups, leaders and denominations and the recent far-right movement in Brazil, a phenomenon known as bolsonarismo. The relationship between evangelicals and reactionary political groups in the country is not unprecedented. A considerable number of these leaders and denominations had already given enthusiastic support to the civil-military coup and the dictatorial governments that lasted in Brazil from 1964 to 1985. Our thesis is that the so-called Theology of Domination has served and serves as a theological justification for this relationship. In short, the relationship between conservative evangelicals and the American far-right is the inspiration for what has happened and is happening on the Brazilian scene.
