Abstract

The Amazon Synod is one of the Pope Francis initiatives, connected to his ecclesial ideal, that are most directly related to the Brazilian reality. It is focused about the Catholic Church in Amazon region, involving issues linked to the environment and indigenous in Brazil. The topics discussed deepened the controversies and divisions that accompanied his pontificate, both intra-ecclesiastically and externally to the Church. In this sense, this article seeks to analyze the political-religious reaction of the TFP (Tradition, Family and Property), an ultraconservative catholic group, to the Synod to the Amazon. The objective is to identify and analyze which of the subjects discussed in the Synod were prioritized by the TFP. Methodologically, the article is based on the tools of  the Discourse Analysis, applied to the analysis of synodal documents and the content posted on the TFP’s main digital channels.
