Abstract

Spiritual surgeries in Umbanda are an example of the inclusion of spirituality and religiosity, through religion, in health care. They do not require religious affiliation, nor an instrumental apparatus. Its main focus is the cure of a certain disease, however without guarantees that this intention will be achieved, due to the factors that justify the illness. From this premise, the beliefs in karma and reincarnation stand out which, together with faith and merit, corroborate the results of this religious therapy. To this end, spiritual surgeries in Umbanda are part, for its faithful, of a spiritual plot that, at the same time that guides its realization, justifies the non-achievement of the cure, without losing its value, because even so, they appear as a network of support and support to alleviate the suffering caused by the disease. This whole process is analyzed according to the Bakongo Cosmogram disseminated by Kimbwandende Kia Bunseki Fuki-au.
