Abstract

Abstract: This article connects the biblical psalmody and the commentaries on the psalms that Augustin of Hippo performed between the years 392 and 422, transmitted in the work Enarrationes in Psalmos. In this work, Augustin interprets the psalms in order to instruct the faithful in their life of faith, especially through song and music. Therefore, the guiding line of this analysis is musicality, as an expression of prayer in the form of poetry. From a pertinent bibliography, musical aspects are highlighted in the psalms in general, and in the work of Augustine in particular. In order to illustrate the importance of music in prayer, Enarrationes serves as an all-time sampling. Poetry, music and prayer move hearts throughout biblical history, as well as in the time of Augustine and in subsequent cultures. The same result applies, of course, to the present day.
