“A terra é de Yahweh, e tudo que nela habita”: sionismo cristão e teologia bíblica no conflito Israel-Palestina

Abstract

Impassible to the effects of Israeli military occupation on Palestinian territories and lives, Christian Zionism emerges amid exclusivist theologies and forms of antisemitism, creating a God in the image of colonialism, appropriating Judaism, and determining Israel’s history through dispensationalist eschatology. Yet in Romans, Paul – the apostle to the Gentiles – emphasize the Hebrew roots of the Christian faith while envisions the people of God beyond the borders of Judah. In his theology of liberation, Naim Ateek recalls the biblical premise of “justice, and only justice,” to reaffirm human responsibility and dignity before the divine, to whom the land belongs. Bringing God back to the center of the debate is a call to rethink the divine nature, for the way we conceive of God shapes also our vision of “the whole earth and all who dwell in it”.
