In 2017, Brazil approved the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). This document guides how states and municipalities should systematize their school curricula. Regarding Religious Education (RE) this normative document presents important recommendations, including the prevalence of a pluralistic teaching that does not privilege one religion over others. The BNCC emphasizes respect and tolerance as the focus of the discipline, aiming at diversity and coexistence. Based on the BNCC, this paper analyzes the Religious Education curriculum in three states: Pernambuco, Paraíba, and Piauí.
