Abstract

This work addresses the memory of purity based on the works of Michel Foucault; in that regard, we seek to problematize purity, verifying whether it constitutes an object of discourse linked, to a certain extent, to the religious field and/or the field of sexuality; or even, if it is possible to find a set of statements, in Foucault's sense, linked to the issue of purity, thus allowing us to defend the existence of a discourse of purity. To achieve this, the theoretical-methodological path adopted, in line with Foucault's archaeogenealogy, permeates the notion of memory domain and uses the indexical method, analyzing important religious, philosophical and historical texts developed in different socio-political and cultural contexts. The analysis pointed to the possibility of purity being understood as a discourse.
