Abstract

This article argues that the current conflict in Gaza constitutes genocide, driven by the convergence of Jewish and Christian Zionism, which has transformed faith into state policy. This union, supported by Western powers, has allowed for the systematic extermination of the Palestinian population, including its culture and history. Although the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, is reprehensible, the Israeli response is disproportionate and opportunistic. The text points out that the number of Palestinian deaths is, so far, 50 times higher, evidencing annihilation. Israel's genocidal logic includes the use of hunger as a weapon of war and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, such as hospitals and schools. South Africa's complaint to the International Court of Justice has brought the debate on genocide to the fore. The text also recalls the origins and ideology of Zionism, which, since its inception, has sought to deny the existence of the Palestinian people, treating them as a “people without a land.” This colonialist and racist strategy aims to eliminate and replace the Palestinians in that territory.
